December 2014 Newsletter

The semester is winding down, so we only have a few events to announce this month.  However, we do have a survey that we would very much like you to complete.  We are well aware that Truman has many faculty members who do interesting and innovative things in their classes, or who have a great deal of experience with certain teaching pedagogies that others may wish to try.  To that end, we would like to build a list of faculty who would be willing to share their knowledge by serving as mentors in their areas of expertise.  The role of mentor does not require a significant time contribution, but rather assumes that you will be willing to answer occasional questions from other faculty, either in person or by email.  Please volunteer to be a mentor, or nominate someone who may be too modest to volunteer (we will ask their permission before adding them to the mentor list) on the following form: Mentoring Request Form.

Upcoming APDC Events:

On Tuesday, November 18 from 12-1pm in the SUB Conference Room, there will be an APDC Workshop on the topic of Writing Student Learning Outcomes.  Dana Vazzana from the APDC will lead the workshop, and faculty are encouraged to bring syllabi for specific courses in order to begin the process of composing or revising learning outcomes for these classes.  Lunch will be served.  Please RSVP: Learning Outcomes RSVP by Friday, November 14 if you plan to participate.

On Tuesday, December 16 from 1:00-4:00pm and on Thursday, January 8 from 1:00-4:00pm (room TBA) there will be a two-part workshop on Preparing Your Portfolio for those who are preparing for promotion, tenure, or third-year review.  The December workshop is to provide guidelines and suggestions and begin the process, and the January one is to review participants' portfolio drafts and provide feedback.  Participants may choose to attend both sessions, or to attend only one of the two.  Please RSVP here: Portfolio Workshop RSVP by Friday, December 12 if you plan to attend.

Remember that we will be watching the 20-minute Monday Morning Mentor video every Monday from 11:45-12:05 in the SUB Conference Room.  Bring your lunch and join us!  Beverages and cookies are provided.  Our last video of the semester will be on Monday, November 17: What is Storyboarding and How Can It Help You Flip Your Class? The remaining videos will not be shown in the SUB due to room availability, but can be watched all week online:

Upcoming events from the Learning Technologies Team:

On Wednesday December 3rd, the Learning Technologies Team would like to invite you to swing by their office in PML205 sometime between 10am and 3pm for refreshments.  This is an opportunity for you to visit with the Learning Technologies Team about anything technology related you desire, and share ideas regarding future workshop topics.

On Dec. 9th, 10th, and 11th, the Learning Technologies Team will be hosting “Open Office Hours” for New Faculty in PML205.  Now that you have survived the semester, we have some things to share with you!  Please stop in for Apple Cider, and ask any questions you may have as you reflect on your semester and begin to think about the Spring!
