December 2013 Newsletter

The fall semester is almost over....but it is never too early to plan for the next one!  If you would like to make some changes to any of your courses or take time to do some reading on teaching pedagogy over the winter break, please make an appointment to stop by the APDC and check out our library of teaching resources.  I will not be holding regular office hours after the last day of classes, but will be in town during the winter interim and available for appointments.

Here are some upcoming and events and opportunities:

There will be a 2-part portfolio workshop on Tuesday, December 17 and Thursday, January 9 from 1-4pm in VH 1220 for faculty who are preparing portfolios for promotion, tenure, or 3rd year review.  The December session will focus on getting the portfolio started and learning what to include, and the January session will provide an opportunity for peer review of a portfolio draft.  Please RSVP here:  Workshop RSVP by Friday, December 13 if you plan to attend.

On Tuesday, January 21 at noon in SUB Georgian Room A, we will present an online seminar from Magna Publications titled Helping Introverts Thrive in an Active Learning Classroom.  Lunch will be served.  A more detailed description can be found here: http://www.magnapubs.com/catalog/helping-introverts-thrive-in-an-active-learning-classroom/ .  This is a live online seminar and will begin promptly at noon. The seminar is one hour long, and participants are encouraged to stay afterwards for discussion.  Please RSVP here: RSVP link by Friday, January 17 if you plan to attend.

Quality Matters is offering a series of online workshops on teaching pedagogy during the winter interim.  The cost is $250 per person for QM members, and Truman is a member institution.  More details can be found here: https://www.qualitymatters.org/live-winter-institutes.
